YourDeckBuilder fully replaced our aging—and dangerous, structurally-compromised—hillside deck, and we are thrilled with the result. The deck's wood was severely worn, with parts showing termite damage, and the concrete supports underneath were tilted and *cracked*. The whole thing was sitting at an angle and pulling away from the house. We had been putting off the necessary work for fear of the cost, painting over blemishes to fool ourselves into thinking we had more time, but then one of us suddenly stepped through planks of wood (no injuries) and we knew we couldn't delay it any longer (see before photos). I contacted YourDeckBuilder, and John Simons was quick to come by to assess the situation and discuss the options (so many options!) available to us. He answered all of my annoying questions and immediately made me feel at ease about such a major project (again, one we'd been dreading and postponing). We had a quote within the week and made a decision about a week later. The contract was signed about a week later and work was underway the next week. The scheduling was easy, even for my partner and I who have absurdly demanding jobs with absurd hours. They worked with us all along the way. No, it wasn't cheap, but it was MORE than reasonable for the engineering and sweat, the craft and beautiful woodwork, especially in this fraught economic environment, with high inflation and difficult-to-procure materials. I want to note our location is exceptionally tricky: we live in a 1920s home on a staircase without *any* street access, which means carrying heavy supplies and debris up and down multiple flights of stairs EVERY day, multiple TIMES per day. The crew made dozens of trips a day, back and forth, back and forth. All of this in the middle of unrelenting summer heat. They also had the hillside to build into and a leftover eucalyptus tree trunk (visible in a before photo) to contend with as they got to work. The primary tradesmen at our home to complete the work—project manager/foreman Ángel, plus Raul, Joell, and José—were keen professionals, and continuing to coordinate check-ins with John Simons was a breeze. Our deck, the whole giant thing, in spite of all the obstacles, was done surprisingly quickly and it's beautiful. In the future we will choose YDB for similar projects, and recommend all our relations do the same.

Great experience with John and the crew at YourDeckBuilder. We had a crumbling wooden deck and staircase on the back of our 100 year-old LA bungalow. John helped us with a design that complimented the existing architecture and saw other safety issues that needed to be addressed with simple solutions. The crew was amazing, showed up everyday and even offered to work on the weekend. They are truly craftsmen and were able to match the design of the existing house which had nonstandard width boards. Everything lines up and looks like it has always been there. We used a combination of redwood and TREX in a way that was economical and structually sound. They painted the wood boards to perfectly match the house. I would use them again in a heatbeat and can highly recommend without hesitation.

I’ve never been so impressed by a construction company. Your Deck Builder erected a hillside deck and retaining walls for my property. Like clockwork a small army of workers showed up on time and pressed hard every single day for over a month until the job was finished. They did not leave mid job to work on other projects as contractors often do. It was honestly inspiring watching them work as a team, simultaneously tackling different areas quickly and efficiently. Your Deck Builder replaced my 25 year-old second story deck, which was structurally compromised with dry rot and termite damage. My excellent project manager, John, suggested an expansion of the footprint, resulting in a lovely expansion of the square footage. For the quality of work proposed, the bid was fair, and I decided to go for the more expensive option of ipe Brazilian walnut with steel cable railings. The Your Deck Builder team, lead by Angel — a master contractor in his own right — did an amazing job from start to finish. Angel and his team built the deck stronger than I had imagined with huge concrete footings anchored to bedrock and 2 large glulam beams. The deck is a beautiful compliment to the house and will be enjoyed for years to come.

Everything about our experience with YourDeckBuilder was smooth and first rate - they make quality and customer service a top priority! We were looking to build a small hillside deck to supplement our existing backyard. We talked to several different companies over the last few years and YourDeckBuilder clearly stood out. John Simons was our direct contact and immediately put us at ease with his experience and understanding of what we were wanting to accomplish, and his bid was very fair given the complexity of our project. The crew, headed by Angel, was nothing short of stupendous. They were professional, punctual, clean, and most of all master craftsmen. Since the deck was on the hillside, the crew did the required extra work to level the area and provide a solid foundation and any needed retaining support. They also improvised to make the deck fit organically within the slope and the trees. They were very sensitive to the surrounding trees which was our highest priority. The deck was built using Ipe hardwood, which requires a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail, and it certainly shows. We are extremely happy with the result and would whole-heartedly recommend YourDeckBuilder!

An absolutely delightful experience and wonderful craftsmanship! The team at YourDeckBuilder did a terrific job from the early planning and design phase through final deck completion. Even had a few minor follow-up items that they proactively scheduled with us and completed. Our project included one 21’ x 14’ redwood deck with pergola as well as approximately 90’ of wood and cable fencing. Matt helped us through design and cost options, the overall project process, and timelines. We looked at several deck providers, and YourDeckBuilder was very competitive and had some of the best crafted decks that we reviewed. During the fabrication and installation process, Gabor and Ralph were prompt, courteous, and very hard working craftsman daily. Also appreciated their communication and clarity on the the current week events and future activities. They were very collaborative in their approach and gave us ample advance notice to make decisions (deck coloring, seating arrangements, pergola slat spacing, etc) which made the process very comfortable and less stressful for us. I would certainly use the team at YourDeckBuilder again, and would recommend them for your future project.

This company is outstanding, truly artist! I have had a vision of how I want the deck to be for a couple of years and they fulfilled my request perfectly. John was very flexible when it one point in time we needed to make some changes, and the crew was incredibly nice and very knowledgeable and resourceful. In particular, I need to point out that "Gabor" was so good, every day we would have a huddle to discuss the design, the layout, the lines of the deck etc. He treated the project like it was his own and truly cared about what he was doing. I have worked with Matt ad his crew for seceral years. I have an old redwood deck which they continue to maintain. They were here when they indicated they would be and were very professional. They braced some joints to provide secure footing and replaced several boards. They then pressured washed the deck and restained it. Matt and his crew continue to provide texcellent service and will Icontinue to call on him. I would not hesitate to recommend Matt and his crew.

He understood my funky drawing, patiently pointed out and fixed design flaws and provided a reasonable estimate and work schedule. We hired this firm to construct a front deck and a back yard pergola at our house. We couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. We are extremely happy with the workmanship and our curb appeal is 100% better than before. As with any project, the devil is in the details. They provided their bid and after starting the work realized that we needed some concrete work and some stucco work to make things look right. They completed these unforeseen issues without asking for any additional funds and still completed on schedule as well. They were pleasant to deal with, arrived on time and kept the work areas tidy.
